Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Lanao del Norte won the grand prize in the just concluded Higalaay Choral Competition held yesterday, August 22, at Centrio Mall. They received a Plaque of Recognition and P100,000 cash.
Accordingly, this is the second time that they won the choral competition.
Lanao del Norte also won Best Conductor.
Meanwhile, DepEd Iligan City placed 2nd and received Plaque of Recognition and P70,000 cash.
Oroquieta City grabbed 3rd place and got Plaque of Recognition and P50,000 cash.
The rest of the schools division-based chorales received P10,000 cash as consolation prize and they include: Division of Bukidnon, Malaybalay City, Tangub City, Gingoog City, Valencia City, Camiguin, El Salvador City, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Ozamis City and Cagayan de Oro City.
The choirs were required to sing two songs, one of which was “Sakayanon” which was composed by Milagros Serina-Moreno, City Mayor Oscar Moreno’s mother. The criteria were: Musicality (40%); Musicianship (40%); Costume (10%); and Deportment (10%). More photos below by Nica Borja.
