Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago and Opol Mayor Max Seno led today’s formal inauguration of the new Opol Port in Brgy. Luyong Bonbon, Opol, Misamis Oriental.
Opol Port is designed to serve as a back up port to help decongest the port of Cagayan de Oro and will cater mainly to cargo vessels. It has a yard area of 7,000 square meters and 150 meters berth length. The Opol Port Development Project, which started on March 7, 2017 was completed on June 2, 2019, and includes the construction of reinforce concrete (RC) wharf, back up area and access road, and supply and installation of port lighting system.
Also present in the event are DOTr Undersecretary for Maritime Fernando Juan Perez, Usec. for Finance Garry De Guzman, Usec. for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark De Leon, Usec. for Aviation and Airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo, and first Opol port users Asia Brewery and San Miguel Corp.
