Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade led today’s formal inauguration of the new 6-lane Electronic Gate Complex of the Port of Cagayan de Oro which was built to address the long queuing lines and decongest the roads towards the cargo gates/ port entry point.
According to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the new Gate Complex is fully-equipped with CCTV cameras for easy identification and security purposes, weighbridges, electronic gate system to complement the Electronic Payment System and Electronic Permit System, payment booths, among others. A separate gate was also designated as a portal for over size/heavy lift cargoes. The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro also plans to incorporate in the future the use of RFID for vehicle recognition.
Traffic congestion has been a perennial problem that makes roads unsafe and inefficient for passage and use by cargo laden trucks/chassis. These obstructions are causing undue delays in the delivery/transport/loading of cargoes, increased port stay time of vessels and low port productivity.
