Residents of a coastal village in Gingoog City were surprised to see a dead 10-foot oarfish washed ashore today, July 14 at Purok 1C, Barangay 19.

Gingoog City Mayor Erick Canosa is shown below looking at the large deep-sea elongated fish together with local villagers. Photos courtesy of Aaron Pollentes.

As in previous oarfish sightings, these deep-sea creatures come out before the occurrence of an earthquake. It can be recalled that yesterday, July 13 at around 4:42am, a 5.5 magnitude quake rocked Surigao del Sur.
