Do you know that there’s a hidden underground river in the hinterlands of Iligan City? SIKYOP ADVENTURE located in Sitio Lawlawon in Barangay Rogongon is managed by the Sikyop Agriculture Cooperative and features underground river trekking, a visit to Pagangon Falls and tree-top viewing.

We all know that Iligan City is the city of waterfalls but an underground river will just be as exciting as viewing the marvel of a waterfall. Actually, “Sikyop” is a Higaonon term for hidden paradise. It is approximately 32 kilometers east of Iligan City Proper through Sta. Filomena-Rogongon Road. It’s about an hour drive from the National Highway. See the map below.

Here’s a closer map. It is just before the junction to Rogongon Brgy. Hall. The site is accessible for private vehicles. There are also habal-habals at the highway for P300/pax (round-trip).

This the main function hall of the place. Entrance fee is P110/pax and a tour guide fee of P200. The coop requires 1 tour guide for every 5 persons. By it has a function room good for 80-85pax good for seminars.

From the main hall, a 20-30-minute trek downhill leads to the underground river. As shown, it is shallow but slippery and river current is a little bit strong particularly during the wet season so safety and a local guide is a must. Actually, the river flows at the bottom of a deep crevice which have slowly carved the walls for a long period of time. Accordingly, the best time to visit is in the morning as rains tend to flood the river in the afternoon.

This is Pagangon Falls. It’s small but has a large discharge during the rainy season. It is also about 20 minutes from the underground river.

The place also has several caves to explore. Just inquire with the guide as to which cave is safe. Shown below is Inolusan Cave. Other caves include Sinamba and Hinagudan Cave, both accessible via river trekking.

The place also has nature-style accommodations. Since it’s a forested area, mosquito nets are a must. Rates (subject to change) are P500/night for 1 room; P300-600/night for the tent; P1,000/night for large tent (15-20pax); Treetop – P600 (good for 4pax).

Its Treetop Adventure includes Canopy walk, Zipline and Rappelling. Rate is P450/pax.

Food isn’t a problem. Tourists and adventurers can order meals at Sikyop Agri Coop’s function hall. Order your meal before you start your trek so that your food will be ready after you finish your adventure.

With regards to safety, Sikyop Agri Cooperative also assures the place’s safety. There are also military camps nearby.
