A road widening project of a section of the Agusan-Malaybalay Road is set for completion this July 2019. This new highway connects Butuan City and Malaybalay City in Bukidnon without passing through Misamis Oriental.
The section at Barangay Maningalao, Las Nieves in Agusan del Norte which is part of the East-West Lateral Road (EWLR) with a total length of 1.4 kilometers inclusive of concrete open canal drainage and intermittent concrete and gravel shoulder will be completed on July 25, 2019 or an extension of additional 51 calendar days from the original completion date. This was due to a request for Time Extension due to continuous rains.
As shown below, the new road will benefit the communities in the rural areas particularly farmers.
The EWLR is part of the Mindanao Logistic Infrastructure Network (MLIN) of the national government which is currently being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Aside from farmers and rural business folk, the infrastructure project will also benefit the Higaonon and Manobo tribes and other ethnic group in whose lands the road will traverse in the mountainous areas of Regions 13 and 10.
Started in 2015, the EWLR comprises about 45.704 kilometers of road openings, 57 kilometers for road concreting, and six bridges that will be completed in 2022.
