Government forces foiled what could have been a destructive attack on private farms and government facilities by New Peoples Army (NPA) rebels after a concerned citizen tipped police late Tuesday evening of the presence of heavily armed group at Sitio Aurora, Barangay Sto. Niño in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
In a press release, Police Superintendent Kitt Serenas said a joint PNP and AFP group responded to the information which was received at around 11:00 o’clock Tuesday night, May 28. Accordingly, a short firefight ensued when the NPA rebels engaged an organized Barangay Tanod in the area. Nobody was hurt however. Sensing that their plan was foiled, the rebels burned the vehicles they were supposed to use in their attack. Police then recovered several fired cartridges of cal. 45, AK-47, and M-16 assault rifles at the crime scene, including two (2) L-300 vans, one (1) Izusu Elf truck, one (1) Toyota Hilux pick up truck, and two (2) motorcycles which were intentionally burned by the retreating rebels at a palm oil farm in the area which borders Malitbog town. Police is now conducting investigation and tracing the owners of the vehicles.
