Cagayan de Oro’s John Ignatius Macas defeated Ivan Pavich of New Zealand via Referee-Stopped-Contest (RSC) in the 2nd round in the gold medal match in men’s flyweight in the ongoing 2019 Arafura Games at the Darwin Convention Center in Darwin, Australia.

The 19-year old Macas had tagged Pavich with two standing 8-counts and was going in for the kill before the referee stopped the fight. It was the Philippines’ lone boxing gold in the games.

Meanwhile, fellow Kagay-anon Shera Mae Jacinto was not as lucky after losing a close 2-3 decision to Australia’s April Franks.
