Fifteen-year old John Mike Lera of Oroquieta City leaped to a new Palaro record of 7.39 meters to break the old mark set by Julian Fuentes in 2012 in the ongoing 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.

In a rare result, Lera could only settle for the silver medal after his jump was only good for second place behind Cagayan Valley’s Algin Gomez whose jump measured 7.55 meters. Palaro officials however nullified Gomez’ jump because it was aided by a 2.8 m/s wind. Accordingly, records made exceeding 2.0 m/s wind are not recognized. But Gomez still went home with the gold. The wind gauge measured 1.70 m/s in Lera’s jump validating his new record. See the results below.

Lera’s previous personal best was 6.71 meters.
