A group composed of nine associations of small fisherfolk from the town of Salay, Misamis Oriental recently received a P10 million loan package under the Agriculture and Fisheries Machinery and Equipment (AFME) Loaning Program of the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC), the credit agency of the Department of Agriculture. The group will use the loan to buy their own 20-ton fishing boat, an ice-making facility and a refrigerated van.
The fishermen also returned in Manila for the 1st Philippine Fisheries Expo from December 18 to 22 at the World Trade Center Manila to choose the ice-making equipment and the truck that they will buy using the loan from AFME. Photos below show the leaders of the nine associations accompanied by Salay Mayor Angelo Capistrano, Jr. with Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol.
