Former amateur boxing standout and Rio Olympian Charly Suarez was victorious in his first professional bout by knocking out Davao del Sur’s Ernesto Cagampang just 24 seconds into the 2nd round Wednesday night at the Tablon Mini-Gym in Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City.

The 30-year old Suarez, a native of Davao del Norte, pummeled Cagampang with a barrage of hooks to the body before an uppercut floored the game but overmatched and previously unbeaten Cagampang.

Suarez was a bemedalled boxer in his amateur days. Among his credentials include: Gold Medalist in SEA Games (2009, 2011); Silver Medalist in Tammer Tournament (2010); Silver in Indonesia President’s Cup (2011); Silver in Kazakhstan President Cup (2014); Silver in 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea; Silver in ASIAN-Oceania Qualifying for 2016 Rio Olympics (2015); Bronze in SEA Games (2017); and represented the country in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
