The Cagayan de Oro City Council has just passed a local ordinance regulating the tattoo industry in the city.

The ordinance approved last Monday, January 14, 2019 requires a permit from City Hall for tattoo studios and shops involved in body piercings including strict compliance on hygiene and sanitation, standard precautions on public health, and strict requirements on the tattooer including education, training and experience to safely practice tattooing procedures. Violators face imprisonment of not less than 1 month or a fine of at least P5,000.
