It’s just a week before Cagayan de Oro City starts to implement the ban of single use plastic bags.
Starting January 1, 2019, shoppers will have to bring their own bags or buy eco-bags available in grocery stores as City Ordinance No. 13378-2018 finally takes effect. Some of the city’s malls have already started practicing the ban on selected days of the week a few months earlier.
The ordinance provides for the prohibition on the use of plastic bags or ‘sando’ bags by all commercial establishments including malls, sari-sari stores and public markets EXCEPT for plastic roll bags for wet goods such as meat and poultry products, fish and seafood, fresh fruits and processed food. Violators will be fined at least P3,000 per ‘sando bag’.
So better be ready come January. Otherwise, you’ll have to shell out a few pesos more to buy grocery bags every time you buy. Read our previous posts below.
