Philippine Army Scout Rangers overran two rebel hideouts in two encounters last December 12 and 13 in the uninhabited upland area along the border of Bukidnon and Agusan del Sur. The 2 sites were reportedly intended for the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
In a news release, Colonel Edgardo de Leon, commander of the 403rd Infantry “Peacemaker” Brigade, said one site had one multi-purpose hall, two kitchens and one water reservoir. The Scout Rangers also recovered a cellular phone, a generator set, electrical wires, and several personal belongings on one of the hideouts. The other hideout yielded a rifle grenade, several types of ammunitions belonging to high-power firearms, bomb-making materials, medical kits, and documents.
Accordingly, the hideouts were discovered with the help of former NPA members who have already surrendered to authorities.
