Citing significant decrease in passengers and loss of earnings, several transport groups in Cagayan de Oro City have filed a petition with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for a P10 taxi fare rollback. In relation to the petition, the Cagayan de Oro City Council passed a resolution supporting the move by the associations of taxi operators and drivers.
It can be recalled that the city’s taxis started implementing the new rates in May this year. Read our old post below.
When the new rates were implemented, usual taxi commuters complained of significant increase in the taxi fares for a specific distance. For instance, a taxi ride from Xavier Estates to Divisoria which usually costs around P100 now costs between P130-P150 on the average depending on traffic.
Meanwhile, on the drivers’ side, accordingly they could not meet the daily taxi rent (boundary) which operators have also increased with the new taxi rates. This prompted the group to file the petition for a rollback of P10. Details at SunStar CDO.
