Camiguin’s Sunken Cemetery is perhaps one of the most visited and photographed tourist sites in the island.
Located on the northwest coast of the island in Catarman town, the large cross seen today about 30 meters offshore marks the site of the old public cemetery which sunk during the mighty eruption of nearby Mt. Vulcan (see map below) in 1871.
The entire 5-hectare cemetery is now about 25 feet below sea level and is covered with corals. Watch this aerial clip below by Project LUPAD.
