There’s a new passenger boarding ramp now being used at Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental and is very accessible especially for the elderly and persons with disability (PWD).

As shown below, the new revolutionary boarding bridge is used by Cebu Pacific for disembarking passengers. The facility makes it easier for elderly, PWDs and even for persons with carry-on trolleys which is difficult to handle when using the traditional stairs.

The boarding ramp is a product of Aviramp, a UK-based manufacturing company which supplies innovative boarding ramps and remote stand walk through boarding bridges.

The one used at Laguindingan Airport is the Standard Continental mostly utilized by Airbus airplanes (this includes A318, 319 and 321) which is a fully portable walk through boarding bridge designed for use on medium narrow bodied aircraft and offers an single point of access for all passengers.

In February this year, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the Clark International Airport Authority (CIAC), and the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) signed Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2018-01 which enjoins all airline operators, including ground handlers, to install and use PWD and Senior Citizen accessible Passenger Boarding Ramps for all their aircrafts. Read it HERE.

Said memo is in compliance to Republic Act (RA) 7277, otherwise known as the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, and to RA 9994, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.

The Aviramp is very useful at Laguindingan Airport where there are only two air bridges but usually, only one is operational.
