These photos show a local ‘trisikad’ along the Diversion Road in Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City slowing vehicular traffic as it negotiates a section of the alternate highway. It’s a common scene in the city with trisikads plying major roads in the absence of bike lanes.
As shown, the truck’s path is being blocked by the slow-moving pedal powered transport and has to wait for a chance to overtake hopefully in a short distance ahead.
Also shown is a parked delivery van (left) which compounds the traffic woes in the area. This section of the Diversion Road leading to the Puntod-Kauswagan Bridge is a 4-lane highway but at certain times reduced to just 2 lanes utilized due to the presence of parked vehicles in a NO PARKING zone area on both sides of the highway. Sometimes, several parked vehicles on ‘hazard mode’ make it difficult to overtake slower transport like trucks.
There was a proposal to establish bike lanes but since roads in the city are not wide enough and even under utilized, special lanes for bicycles would just have to wait.
