You may have noticed there’s no more or perhaps less Coke served in several if not all fast food chain stores in Cagayan de Oro City. This has been going on for two months now.
Notices are posted along the counters stating ‘shortage from supplier‘ with no further explanation. Customers are either offered Iced Tea, Pineapple Juice or Sprite. This may be good for those who are health-conscious avoiding soft drinks but not for those coke-drinkers.
Perhaps one of the reasons is the failure to supply sugar by local farmers to beverage giant Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines. Accordingly, the beverage firm complained about this in May 2018. Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said “local sugar producers are speculating the prices of sugar will shoot up that is why they do not want to release their committed volume to Coke.” – Read more at Philstar.com HERE.
Just lately, Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. announced it will take over the Philippine operations after Mexico-based franchise bottler Coca-Cola FEMSA decided to sell its 51-percent stake in Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines, Inc. Details in the link below.
