El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental successfully held its first ever Nipa Festival, derived from Tagnipa, the old name of then El Salvador town, which was coined from the abundance of Nipa Palm in the area.
Led by Mayor Edgar S. Lignes and El Salvador City Tourism Council headed by Tourism Head Ms. Jeen Clarin Lopez, the staging of the festival brought the city to another level in the tourism industry. Already known as a faith tourism destination with Divine Mercy Shrine, El Salvador City is also an industrial economic driving force of the province with the presence of Asia Brewery Inc., Universal Robina Corp., Tanduay Distilleries, Union Plywood Corp., Zest-O Corp. and WL Foods Corp., among others.
