Looking for parking space in Cagayan de Oro City has become a difficult task among motorists such that the City Council is now planning to give tax incentives to owners of vacant lots who will allow free parking.

In an article from SunStar CDO, Councilor Lordan Suan is proposing to grant tax exemption for owners of idle lands which will be used for free parking. However, the City Legal Office said tax exemption is premature because there is no local ordinance yet imposing taxes for idle lands. For his part, Councilor George Goking instead pushed for the recently approved city ordinance on public-private partnership for the people (P4) initiative which provides policies and regulations on issues concerning traffic, among others. P4 also allows the city government to partner with private entities for such project where tax exemptions can be granted to private partners as a benefit.
