After waiting for 2 years, some 455 hectares of cacao plantations in one city and six municipalities in Misamis Oriental are ready for harvesting come December 2018. Cacao is a major ingredient in the manufacture of chocolates.
In a press release, the provincial capitol stated that farmers in Gingoog City (140 has.), Claveria (110 has.), Initao (25 has.), Naawan (60 has.), Manticao (73 has.), Lugait (25 has.) and Talisayan (22 has.) can soon reap the fruits of their planted cacao seedlings. Some 3,020.50 hectares in the province were planted with cacao.
In the capitol’s cacao program, some 15 farmers per municipality can avail of the cacao seedlings. Those interested can formally write to the Provincial Agricultural Office of their intent.
