Bureau of Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña has suspended 5 Customs officers who will face administrative cases for suspicions that they are part of a well-organized syndicate which allowed the illegal release of more than a hundred container vans at the Mindanao International Container Terminal (MICT) Port in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. The unauthorized release of said container vans were traced back to as early as February 2018.
Lapeña, who was in Cagayan de Oro last week, said the container vans were released from MICT’s container yard without paying a single centavo. He also announced that eight individuals who are consignees, customs broker, and MICTSI personnel will face criminal charges after being found to be involved in the illegal operation.
