South Cotabato-born Vic “Vicious” Saludar who is now based in Cagayan de Oro City dropped defending champion Ryuya Yamanaka of Japan in the 7th round with a vicious right hand en route to a 12-round unanimous decision victory to claim the WBO minimumweight world crown yesterday, July 13 in Kobe, Japan.

Saludar, a former amateur standout who represented the country in international tournaments, won on all score cards: 116-111, 115-112, 117-110. It was his second attempt at a world crown. With his win, his record now stands at 18-3 with 10 KOs.

Meanwhile, Vic’s brother, Froilan who is also based in the city gets his chance for a world title when he challenges Sho Kimura for the WBO Flyweight title in Qingdao, China on July 27.
