“PROJECT VELEZ”, an underground cabling and wiring system along Don Apolinar Velez Street in downtown Cagayan de Oro City is now being discussed by members of Task Force Hapsay Kable as a future project even as some 97 kilometers of unused wires and cables have now been recovered since the start of the clearing operations last April 17.

Accordingly, some 53 old wooden poles and alley arms owned by telecommunication companies have also been removed as stated in the task force’s first monthly report. Photo below shows the ongoing work by the task force along Pabayo Street.

The proposed underground wiring system along Velez will kick off the shift from the current aerial to underground system in the future but the plan will face some challenges such as budget, infrastructure and bureaucratic red tape.
