Two nurses who are suspected members/supporters of the Maute Group were arrested at a checkpoint in Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City Wednesday afternoon.

Government authorities were acting on a tip that the suspects will be passing in the said area. Nabbed were Eyadzhemar Abusalam, 26, and Dianne Catherine Palmitos, 25, both from General Santos City. Seized from the suspects were a fragmentation grenade and one .45 caliber pistol with magazine.

Reports state the suspects brought medical supplies to the Maute Group during the Marawi siege last year. They are also allegedly involved in a planned attack on the Feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo last January 2018 which did not push thru.

The two are now under police custody and are facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives. Read details below.

The arrest of the suspects was timely as it came a day before a major religious event – the Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Raul Dael at St. Augustine Cathedral.
