The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) of Cagayan de Oro has advised motorists to avoid Kauswagan Highway particularly along the section near Toyota Showroom which has been declared not passable to vehicles as of this time due to floodwaters. Likewise, the CDRRMC has informed the public that Villarin Street in Carmen near St. Mary’s Academy has also been flooded but passable to vehicles.
This after pre-dawn heavy rains poured into the city today, June 5, 2018 which has slightly slowed down at sunrise but continue to persist as of this time.
Accordingly, weather officials from PAG-ASA said the unfavorable weather is caused by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) which has been aggravated by the presence of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) embedded in the ITCZ.
A Heavy Rainfall (Yellow) warning has been raised over several areas in Mindanao including the city and Misamis Oriental.
