Expect more heavy traffic along CM Recto and nearby alternate roads when the ongoing construction of the two-barrel diversion drainage line (subterranean canal) along Valenzuela (Agora) Road proceeds along CM Recto Avenue and then towards Limketkai Avenue and finally connecting to Bitan-ag Channel. Work is expected to commence soon.
Based on sources from the City Engineer’s Office and Roads and Traffic Administration, the new route of the drainage diversion project will now avoid Puregold and instead follow CM Recto and then turn left to Limketkai Avenue up to the portion fronting Limketkai Luxe Hotel (green color). The drainage line will then be connected to Bitan-ag Channel (blue color) but accordingly, this will be implemented next year (2019). Expect the eastbound lanes of CM Recto to be closed to traffic. Perhaps the RTA will release a traffic advisory when construction work starts.
A Notice to Proceed (see below) has already been issued to Jejor’s Construction last March 13, 2018 for a total project cost of P78,591,847.58.
It can be recalled that the supposed diversion drainage line was initially planned to pass under Puregold and then straight to Bitan-ag Channel which is the shorter route. The project aims to divert a significant volume of storm water runoffs along Bitan-ag Channel towards the new drainage line thereby decreasing the volume flow along the existing channel which runs beside USTP.
