Local officials of the town of Manolo Fortich in Bukidnon are now in the process of crafting a resolution which would declare itself as a sanctuary for the Philippine Eagle. The resolution is being targeted to be passed on June 6 to coincide with the Philippine Eagle Week, which is celebrated annually from June 4 to 10 by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 79.

It can be recalled that the endangered Philippine Eagle’s home is at Mt. Kitanglad and one one female eagle was captured in 2008 in Barangay Kalabugao in Manolo Fortich and was aptly named Kalabugao. Declaring the town as a sanctuary will help preserve the town’s natural resources which can contribute to increasing the population of the Philippine eagle.
