The temporary six-month closure of Boracay, the country’s most popular tourist island, kicked off nationwide inspections of all resorts mostly along coastlines verifying compliance to environmental and other existing laws.
The first day of Boracay’s closure began last Thursday, April 26. President Rodrigo Duterte then signed Proclamation No. 475 placing the entire island under a state of calamity. The island will undergo urgent rehabilitation works to restore the once island paradise back to its pristine state.
