Camila Tubiano from Quezon National High School in Bukidnon gave Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) its first medal in the ongoing 2018 Palarong Pambansa losing by just 0.53 seconds to settle for the silver medal in the secondary girls’ 3,000 meter run at the Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

Tubiano clocked 10:07.07 to finish second behind Bicol Region’s Lheslie de Lima who won with a time of 10:06.54. Tubiano won the gold in the secondary girls’ 1,500 meters in last year’s Palarong Pambansa held in San Jose, Antique.

Meanwhile, Bukidnon’s Sylvian Faith Abunda failed to defend her gold medal in the secondary girl’s javelin throw to finish with the silver medal. Western Visayas’ Ann Katherine Quitoy won the gold with a new Palaro record of 45.72 meters.

The two silver medals were NMRAA’s first medals of the annual sporting event. Here’s the medal tally as of 6:38pm, April 16, 2018.

Meanwhile, Northern Mindanao’s secondary boys basketball team won its first game, 78-70 over Mimaropa. The team’s core is made up of players from Assumption Montessori School with new recruits from Bukidnon and Camiguin.
