The iconic Francisco Jeepney has finally evolved with today’s launching of its prototype E-Jeepney at Quirino Grandstand at Luneta Park in Manila.

Unlike other e-jeepneys which look more like a mini bus, the new Francisco Jeepney resembles the iconic traditional jeepney design made famous by Francisco Motor Corporation (FMC) for more than half a century.

Despite retaining the iconic jeeoney design, the prototype e-jeepney conforms with the Philippine National Standards and supports the government’s Public Utility Vehicles (PUV) Modernization program. The new Francisco Jeepney is fully electric using QEV Technology and is equipped with CCTVs. As shown in the photos it has a high ceiling and very spacious for comfortable noise-free ride. It also has a flat screen TV and will use automated fare collection.

By the way, FMC is now Elmer Francisco Industries (EFI) as it embarks on a new chapter in the country’s jeepney industry. Shown below is EFI Founder and Chairman Elmer Francisco.

Because it is still a prototype, it can still be improved.
