Residents in Salay town in Misamis Oriental are now talking about superstitious beliefs after a 16-foot long dead oarfish washed ashore this morning.
Prior to today’s sighting, several of these deep sea creatures have already washed ashore in the province including Cagayan de Oro City. Japanese folklore state that the presence of the oarfish indicates an impending calamity such as an earthquake. Below are some photos of the oarfish as posted in social media.
