The Assumption Montessori School (AMS) Jaguars of Cagayan de Oro City mounted a searing rally but fell short against a much taller and heftier squad from Australia, 78-86, in the 2018 SM NBTC National Finals at the MOA Arena today.

The Jaguars started strong racing to an early 6-0 lead before AusPinoy began to used their height advantage to take a 21-17 lead after the 1st quarter.

AMS’ defense however allowed them to level the count at 34-all at halftime. But a maze of errors and turnovers resulted to AusPinoy points who stretched their lead to 70-58. Last year’s Division 2 MVP Milo Janao nailed 3 triples as the Jaguars threatened 83-78 with a little over a minute left.

With the loss, the AMS were relegated to Division 2 where they will try to defend their title they won last year.
