Five young pugilists form Cagayan de Oro won golds as the city’s boxing team ruled the boxing event in the just concluded Batang Pinoy Mindanao Finals held last Sunday at the Capitol Basketball Court in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental.
Thirteen-year old Angelou Lofranco gave CDO its first gold medal by beating Marlon Luna of Zamboanga) via unanimous decision (5-0) in the School Boys Mosquito weight (38kg) division. 13-year old Eljay Pamisa added another gold by stopping Koronadal City’s Rene Boy Atam at 1:33 of Round 2 in the School Boys Light Paperweight (40kg) division.
Thirteen-year old Rhein John Gidor produced the 3rd gold medal via a referee-stopped-contest over Iligan City’s Eljohn Anor (Iligan) at 1:01 of Round 1 in the School Boys Light Pinweight (44kg) division. Then, 15-year old Ailene Kaye Caranagan outclassed Mythel Ivan Pilapil (Agusan del Sur) by a convincing points decision (5-0) in the Junior Girls Flyweight (50kg) division. And finally, 15-year old Joshua Jan Obvina added the city’s 5th gold medal by beating General Santos City’s Keven Diodor by points (5-0) in the Junior Boys Light Bantamweight (52kg) division.
Bagging silver medals for CDO were Cyrill Claire Payla (36kg), Jhasil John Illudar (42kg), Peter John Payla (48kg), Dave Bryan Caspe (54kg), and Bebe Porres (52kg).
