You may have noticed the lack of jeepneys in Cagayan de Oro City beginning last Tuesday night, February 20, 2018. It’s because several public utility vehicles (PUVs) stopped operating after many of them were flagged down during the ‘Tanggal Bulok, Tanggal Usok’ operations conducted by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Many of those PUVs were found to be emitting black smoke and committed several violations such as defective lights and dilapidated state of vehicle parts. Some 157 PUVs were reportedly apprehended by the joint task force last Tuesday. Accordingly, franchise renewal of affected operators will be held in abeyance pending compliance to road safety rules.
Motorists also observed a slight improvement of rush hour traffic as a result of the operations.
