For the 3rd straight year, the Assumption Montessori School Jaguars crowned themselves as the top high school basketball team in Cagayan de Oro City after beating the Corpus Christi Knights, 83-79, in a thrilling championship game before a packed Xavier University Gym last night in the SM-NBTC League.

With Jovanne Jacutin ad Luc Ashton Artazo finding their range, the Knights raced to an early lead 26-16 after the 1st quarter and at the half, 34-39. But Milo Janao, Jr. led a searing comeback by the defending NBTC Division 2 national champion Jaguars and went on to lead, 62-61 after the three quarters. It was a close game in the final period with several lead changes before John Lloyd Pagara sealed the win for the Jaguars with 2 free throws with 5 seconds left.

Janao, who was MVP in last year’s national championship led all scorers with 34 points.

With the win, the Jaguars advanced to the NBTC Regional Finals set next week also in Cagayan de Oro City. Watch the full game below.
