Have you heard about JOE QUILILAN from Barangay Macasandig in Cagayan de Oro City? He earned the monicker ‘Venom Man’ due to his resistance or immunity from snake bites particularly venomous snakes. And last night, his unique and interesting ability was featured on GMA TV’s Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS).
In last night’s featured story shown on TV, Joe’s story began when he was first bitten by a viper when he was just 14 years old. But he just let it go instead of going to the hospital. It was then he first thought he was immune from snake venom. Now, he regularly injects himself once every 3 weeks with 1 milliliter of snake venom since according to his research, it creates antibodies in his blood against venom and it also takes only 21 days for the venom to stay in the body. He also feels stronger when after injecting. He’s been doing (injecting venom) for seven years now. Joe works at a pet shop and states he has been bitten by snakes more than a 100 hundred times but is still lucky to be alive due to his unique ability to withstand snake venom.
Meanwhile, staff of KMJS even chanced upon Joe after getting bitten twice by a cobra that day. Just to be sure, he was brought to the hospital but just after one hour, he was given a clean bill of health. His blood sample was taken and sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine for further analysis.
