Christmas for Filipinos is always a time for family reunions but many still cannot afford the time due to work schedules including Philippine Airlines (PAL) pilot Juan Paulo Fermin, who hasn’t spent his Christmas together with his mother for the last 17 years. But this year, Fermin finally had the chance to be with his mother when he piloted the plane carrying his mother to the Philippines to celebrate the holiday in Cagayan de Oro.

Fermin’s post in Facebook including the heart-warming embrace went viral. The video has now reached 2.1 million views and has been shared 11,000 times. His caption on his video read as follows:

Today, after 16 Christmases apart – and unknown to my parents, I was actually part of the crew that was flying them home for Christmas.

It’s been a wonderful year for me – a year of dreams turning into reality, and this is definitely the cherry on top. Thank you, Philippine Airlines, for this amazing opportunity.

Have a merry Christmas, everyone.
