The Low Pressure Area (LPA) located east of Mindanao has now developed into a Tropical Depression and was named ‘Agaton’. Based on PAG-ASA’s latest Severe Weather Bulletin issued at 5:00pm, January 1, 2018, Agaton was spotted some 175 km east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph. It is forecast to move West at 19 kph and estimated to make landfall in Caraga Region tonight or early tomorrow morning.
Based on the forecast track as shown below, Agaton is expected to follow the track of Severe Tropical Storm Vinta. Several areas are now placed under Signal No. 1.
