Elements of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) Station 2 confiscated several boxes containing illegal firecrackers or commonly known as piccolo during an IMPLAN LIGTAS PASKUHAN operation in the vicinity of Cogon Market.

Confiscated beside Cogon Market along Yacapin Street were one (1) box with ninety two (92) pieces of small rectangular cartons, fifty five (55) green cartons and thirty seven (37) blue cartons all containing the illegal firecrackers with estimated worth of P10,000.00.

Piccolos are banned in the country after been identified as the leading cause of firecracker-related injuries especially among small children, either due to premature ignition or accidental ingestion.- Wikipedia

Yesterday, City Mayor Oscar Moreno called on COCPO to enforce laws and regulations against illegal selling/vending of firecrackers and fireworks which usually proliferate on sidewalks, public markets, sari-sari stores and other unauthorized display areas before New year’s eve.
