Dr. Ricardo Rotoras, current President of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) was shot dead at around 1:00am today in his home in Upper Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City by an unidentified gunman.
In a police spot report (see below), the 48-year old Rotoras suffered multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body and was pronounced dead after he was rushed to the JR Borja Hospital.
Rotoras is also currently the President of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), the umbrella organization of the 111 state universities and colleges in the country, serving his third term since 2011. He is also the first President of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) after the successful amalgamation of the former MUST and MOSCAT in 2016.
In related radio reports, the family of Rotoras strongly believes that the incident has something to do with his work as President of USTP. Police are now thoroughly investigating the case.
