One of the common complaints among motorists in Cagayan de Oro is the lack of traffic personnel during occurrences of sudden heavy traffic.
Last Saturday afternoon at around 3:30pm, November 18, vehicular traffic along Puntod-Kauswagan Bridge Junction in Puntod suddenly went on a stand still for unknown reasons. The traffic stretched towards Kauswagan side and towards Gaabucayan Street. The gridlock lasted for about 30 minutes. There was no accident. There was no vehicle breakdown. Moreover, there were no traffic officers. It was just the shear volume of vehicles passing a junction at the same time which resulted to a traffic gridlock.
Fortunately, a volunteer got out of his vehicle and started directing traffic. That’s when traffic started to move.
Perhaps the city government should start installing CCTV in the area so the traffic control center can radio its personnel to proceed to the site. Traffic is also getting heavier in the area especially that large trucks are using this route as link to the Coastal Road.
