Cagayan de Oro City officially launched yesterday, October 30, the Oro Computer Aided-Emergency Response Center (OCA-ERC) or simply Oro 911, which the public can access for any emergencies on a 24-hour basis. More than 50 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras are installed in strategic areas in the city which can also be monitored by the center.
It can be recalled that the emergency hotline was initially launched last August using the landline 853-9393 pending DILG clearance for the use of 911 emergency number.
With the DILG clearance now secured, the public can now access 911 for any emergency such as fire, police and traffic assistance as well as medical emergencies.
However, dialing 911 is still not free and only Globe subscribers can access it as of the moment provided it has a balance of at least P12. The city government is still negotiating with telcos in making it toll-free.
The center is targeting a response time of 8 minutes after an emergency call.
