Cagayan de Oro City bagged the GALING POOK AWARD for 2017 in recognition of its innovative practice in local governance during the awarding ceremony held yesterday, October 12 at Novotel Manila. The City was among 10 local government units recognized for outstanding initiatives in local governance.
The city earned the award for its “Rising Up from the Mud” initiatives in order to overcome the Sendong catastrophe resulting to what is now a better city.
Photo below shows City Mayor Oscar Moreno receiving the Galing Pook Marker from Senator Sonny Angara who was the keynote speaker in yesterday’s event. The city also received plaque from the Galing Pook Foundation and P100,000 cheque.
The LGU local governance programs were evaluated through a multilevel rigorous screening process based on positive results and impact, promotion of people’s participation and empowerment, innovation, transferability and sustainability, and efficiency of program service delivery.
