Olympic table tennis champion Ryu Seung Min from South Korea recently came to the Philippines to show support for Cagayan de Oro’s Ian lariba who is now recovering at St. Luke’s Medical Center after undergoing bone marrow transplant.
Ryu, who won the table tennis gold during the 2004 Athens Olympics, came in behalf of the Korean Table Tennis Association to give the Kagay-anon table tennis icon a Korea National Team uniform with words of encouragement from players of the Korea National Table Tennis Team and $3,000 which he helped raise for Lariba’s treatment.
Lariba made history by becoming the country’s first ever table tennis Olympian last year and was the country’s flag-bearer during the Rio Olympics opening ceremonies. But in May this year she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and the news reverberated throughout the country’s sporting world.
Meanwhile, the International Table Tennis Federation Dream Building Foundation donated $20,000 for the treatment and is inviting more to donate #SupportLariba to raise the needed $60,000 for the treatment. Watch this video below.
