Have you been to Burias Shoal? This 15-hectare protected marine sanctuary is located just a kilometer off the coast of Molugan in El Salvador City. It is just a short 5-minute pumpboat ride from Molugan coast and is being promoted by the local government as an eco-tourism site.

Last year, the local government of El Salvador City inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-10) on the preservation and protection of its coastal waters particularly on Burias Shoal Marine Protected Area (MPA) consisting of 14.8 hectares which was established through City Ordinance No. 04, Series of 2013. A P1.4M watercraft was also turned over to the city government to support coastal marine habitats protection and rehabilitation which includes mangrove rehabilitation, marine protected area establishment and management, and coastal patrol and monitoring within the city coastal water limit only.
