It’s common in Filipino tradition that the presence of flaglets or banderitas indicates an upcoming special event or more often a fiesta.

And there’s no difference in Cagayan de Oro City. Weeks before the city celebrates the feast of its patron Saint Augustine, these banderitas are already seen along major streets in various colors and bearing names of corporate sponsors.

Although some may see them as eye sores or objects which affect visual aesthetics, many still prefer to see them as they bring a fiesta atmosphere in the city.
