Cagayan de Oro City joins several cities nationwide in the simultaneous lighting of the ASEAN Landmark Lantern on August 8, 2017 as the highlight of the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Sources state that the circular lantern shown above will replace one of the globe lights near Kiosko Divisoria and will be lighted at around 7:00pm on August 8. Accordingly, several associated shows will be held during the day highlighted by the lighting of the ASEAN lantern.
The lantern was designed by Pampanga’s Arvin Quiwa (see Inquirer news link HERE) and measures six feet (1.83 meters) in diameter. Its design features the national leaf (anahaw), the national flower (sampaguita), and the traditional Mindanao sail boat, vinta.
As posted by Quiwa in Facebook (see below), the lanterns are already done and will be shipped to several cities. Two lanterns will be in Cagayan de Oro with one assumed to be installed at Divisoria (above) and the other one at DILG Office along Masterson Avenue.
