Filipino mixed martial arts fighters Rockytune ‘The Outlaw’ Batolbatol and Gienar Moradas Ponce were hit by a taxi and killed early Sunday morning in Cagayan de Oro City.
This was announced in the Facebook page of Mindanao Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts (MUMMA) where the 2 MMA fighters are training as shown below.
In an article at SuperBalita, the victims together with another MMA fighter Rex de Lara had just come from a hospital visit at Capitol University Medical Center (CUMC) in Gusa where their manager was confined when they hailed a taxi which stopped and parked across the highway. They were already crossing the highway to the waiting taxi when another taxi hit them. The impact saw the two victims landing several meters away with fatal injuries.
The driver of the taxi who is now detained at Agora Police Station said he did not notice the victims crossing the road because it was already in the wee hours and also drizzling.
It was gathered that both Batoltol and Ponce hail from Bacolod City and currently training at MUMMA Gym. Batoltol was scheduled to fight in Surabaya, Indonesia in the ONE Championship Conquest of Kings event against Indonesia’s Sunoto in the undercard of the ONE Flyweight Championship rematch between Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov and Brazilian Adriano Moraes. The event was just recently reset to September.
In MUMMA’s FB page, a one-night wake for the victims will be held today, July 24, at Bollozos Funeral Homes in Bulua before the victims will be brought to their hometown tomorrow.
